Backyard Ultra

Event Coordinator + Producer | Backyard | 2025

Backyard Ultra was born from a simple intention: we wanted it to feel like your cool older sister decided to host an ultramarathon.

Co-produced with Brigid Jacoby, Backyard Ultra was a grassroots fundraiser in support of Back on My Feet and the Alzheimer’s Association.

We partnered with local businesses and community members—including Brooklyn Running Company, Sawa, and The Hydration Guy—who contributed event production support, nutrition, fuel, and hydration.

Additional sponsorship came from LMNT, which donated hydration supplies, and American Express, which matched all donations.

The event brought together about 30 participants who collectively ran more than 200 miles, raising over $2,000—doubled by AMEX for a total impact of over $4,000.

Event Marketing + Race Day

Leveraged Instagram and LinkedIn to share event details, amplify fundraising goals, and build community excitement:

“Who? - Brigid, Ella, and anyone who wants to participate!
What? - A Backyard “Ultra” (what’s that?)
Run or walk as many — or as few — ~4-mile loops of Prospect Park as you’d like.
At the start of each loop, donate $2 (cash or Venmo).
You can go ultra, stroll one loop, or just hang out and enjoy the atmosphere.
When? -
Saturday, September 27 | 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Show up any time during the day.
Check in at the start of each loop so we can keep track.
Where? -
Prospect Park (exact starting location will be shared closer to the date).
Why? -
Because we’re running for two amazing causes — and every loop supports our fundraising!

More about our community partners:

@brooklynrunningco
Founded in 2013 with locations in Park Slope and Williamsburg, Brooklyn Running Co. is MYC’s independent running specialty shop. They welcome runners of all levels — but beginners are their specialty! If you’re starting a new training cycle or just beginning your running journey, their expert footwear fittings are a must.

@sawa_nyc
Sawa is rooted in the hospitality traditions of Beirut, where the table is family, and every meal is an act of care, safety, and connection.

Today, that spirit has found a home in Brooklyn. Widely acclaimed and deeply loved by their guests, Sawa brings forward the best of Lebanese cuisine through a shared, beautiful, meal in an open, welcoming space filled with reminders of home. Their mission is simple: to honor tradition while creating moments of togetherness that linger long after the table is cleared.

For the Backyard Ultra, Sawa is bringing a recovery mocktail as well as some fueling pickles! We’re so excited to share this moment of togetherness with them AND with all of YOU!

@thehydrationguy
Chad, aka The Hydration Guy, provides free hydration (cold water + Gatorade) to the NYC running community from June through October. He’s been a champion of this event since Brigid and I first started talking about it, and we’re so grateful for his ongoing support!

@drinklmnt
LMNT graciously donated their electrolyte mixes in assorted flavors! Their goal is to restore health through hydration — so if there’s one thing you WON’T be on Saturday, it’s thirsty.
Bonus: Sawa used LMNT’s watermelon flavor as an ingredient in their recovery mocktail!

We also had the opportunity to work with local designer and baker
@annabananapierce who provided race day treats! As well as @design_de_luca BedStuy based artist who stopped by to capture some action shots of our runners.
